AH - g by Compound Pendulum

£69.99

A compound pendulum for detailed investigations into the strength of gravity. The bar swings back and forth over a gap between two desks on top of its self levelling mount. Pupils time the period for all the different axle positions and from the graph of Period vs axle position a precise measure of “g” can be found.

Historically this was developed to improve the accuracy of measuring “g” as a regular simple pendulum either has a fair bit of air resistance or uses a heavy bob that stretches the string during swings, it can also be difficult to measure to the centre of the mass.

This was designed for use with Advanced Higher project work. Made from Aluminium to prevent corrosion.

For maths and experimental procedures please see this

Note that this isn’t a directly proportional relationship so LINEST isn’t a suitble way to handle the uncertainties. Instead you simply estimate the error made when reading the sizes on the graph while taking into account how trustworth the line seems.
